Magpies Bakery has been a staple of North Knoxville since 1992, serving up some of the best desserts in the city. Known for our “all butter, all the time” philosophy, Magpies has built a loyal following with cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, and seasonal treats that have become part of Knoxville’s sweetest celebrations for more than three decades.

Magpies was founded by Aunt Peg, whose recipes and love for baking helped shape the bakery into a beloved neighborhood institution. Her niece, Elizabeth Smith, began working at Magpies while still in high school and eventually learned every part of the business, from dishwashing to cake decorating. In 2018, Elizabeth stepped into ownership and continued the bakery’s traditions while serving generations of Knoxville families.

In 2025, Magpies entered a new chapter when Real Good Kitchen, Knoxville’s food business incubator founded by Bailey Foster, acquired the bakery. Today, Bailey and the Real Good Kitchen team are committed to preserving everything the community loves about the bakery while helping it grow into the future. The same recipes, quality, and beloved desserts remain, now strengthened by Real Good Kitchen’s mission to support food entrepreneurs and build a stronger local food community.

Magpies continues to serve Knoxville from its home on North Central Street, providing cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, and seasonal specialties for everyday treats and life’s biggest celebrations.
